God, she wished Brian was with her now, lending his strength and resolve, as the officer scowled down at her. “Can I help you?”
She hunched her shoulders at the whoosh of a helicopter overhead. She hadn’t much time before the army took over. “I need inside. There may be injured passengers.”
“You’re not going anywhere, sweetheart.”
Janet drew herself up to her five-foot-eight inches, still half a foot shorter than the man. “I’m with Médecins Sans Frontières—”
“I see your insignia, Doctor.” He motioned with his baton at the red-and-white badge on her jacket. “This is one border you’re not crossing.”
“With all due respect, Captain, you don’t have the authority to keep me out. We’ve been given autonomy in all medical emergencies. The needs of the injured outweigh respect for national borders, or have you forgotten?”
“People? We don’t know what’s in there, lady.”
Dianne Hartsock is the author of paranormal/suspense, fantasy/adventure, m/m romance, and anything else that comes to her mind. Currently, she works as a floral designer in a locally-owned gift shop—the perfect job for her. When not writing, she expresses herself through the rich colors and textures of flowers and foliage.
